The world is such a vast, diverse and wonderful place with a myriad of cultures, people and environments to explore. But it doesn’t matter how many places you’ve visited already, there always seems to be a new destination to discover and add to that ever-growing bucket list. We always love to discover nearby destinations, so we decided to head to Ras Al Khaimah to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The weather in May was amazing and we couldn’t wait to start our mini vacation!
We ventured off to Double Tree by Hilton in the Marjan Islands. Upon check in, we were given the most delicious freshly baked cookies with the most welcoming staff and then guided to our room.
The hotel staff surprised us with a fully decorated room for the occasion at the Bay Residence, the premium offering of the hotel, with high end suites and exclusive beach access.
Where to eat
As always, we started our stay with food and there were a lot of options to choose from. Bringing together the best of their restaurants, the menu features Vespa (Italian), Meze (Turkish), Sanchaya (Asian) and Brasserie (French-European) highlights. Our ultimate favorites were Meze and Sanchaya.
What to do
There’s a real sense of adventure to be had when you go to RAK.
Our favorite pass time at the hotel was for sure the Tarzan float where we spent most of our time! It has two trampolines, two high-dive boards and a rope swing. There are also a variety of water activities to choose from, from kayaking to jet-skis and sea-bob, etc.
it was beautiful to get away from Dubai on the weekend to a city that has a lot to offer and yet is close by. The lure of Ras Al Khaimah is just as much about the history of the region, as it is modern amenities. Its location is regarded as the most trafficked maritime crossroads in the area, meaning the emirate has for hundreds of years been essential for traders around the Gulf region. Records show that inhabitants from RAK travelled as far afield as Bombay, China and Zanzibar as early as the 10th century.
It was definitely a much needed staycation away from the rush of the big city!
